Knowing how the Experts Do It

You have decided that you want to become a writer. You know it is a scary thought ad if you are ever going to make a career out of it, you can expect the naysayers to be truly loud about it. But if it is truly where your passion lies, then it is more than worth it to give it a shot.

However, you cannot just become a writer simply because you have decided to become one. You would want to be a good one, not just any random writer too. Besides, the field is quite competitive and it is immensely important that you will be able to hone your skills first so you get a much better chance of getting your work published in the process.

Learn proper outlining

You might think that this is something that you only have to do if you were high school, but there are a lot of benefits that you get out of outlining. This may not be every writer’s favourite thing to do, but it does make it ox much easier for a writer to stay focused and organised especially when it comes to the direction that he wants to take the story to.

Gather your ideas now and then write them later

Just waiting for the creative ideas to start flowing will likely get you nowhere. This is why the best approach is to create a system where you get to have a schedule of the writing sessions that you are going to be making in a day or in a week. Remember that writers have to abide by deadlines too. This is why it helps that when the creative juices are flowing, be sure to write them all down. You can just organise these thoughts later on when you are ready to resume writing.

Learn to illustrate

No, you do not need to start drawing. But you do need to become an illustrator using your words. You want your work to create a clear and vivid picture of whatever it is that you are describing. You want to use your words in a way were they breathe life to the scenes and the events that you are describing in your pages.

Try to write the way you speak, only better

Putting a personal touch in the way you write is a sure-fire way of getting more attention to you and to your work. A good way to do it is to consider the dialogues and liens in what you are presently wiring. If there are things in there that you would not normally talk about or things that you would normally not say yourself, then rewrite that page. The best writing is always natural, fluid, and really authentic.

Vary our words

A lot of writers fall into a trap of reusing works that they have already used before way too much. You do not want to commit the same mistake yourself. The best way to do this is to vary the words you are using. A thesaurus would be a good investment for any aspiring writer. This way, it is easier enough to look up other terms of a specific word that you suspect to have been repeating way too much.
